Its been a while

It has been a while since I last updated the site. A lot has been going on. We did move in and have been in almost for 3 months. Everything on the inside of the house has been finished. Most of the landscaping is finished. Right now I am waiting on having the driveway paved then the landscaping can be completed. Here are a few pictures that I took today.

All that is left with the brick is finishing the front, front steps and the side with the garage. They should be done next week.

This week more brick work has been done, HVAC was started, electrical work was done, and painting had began on the ceilings. I did not take a picture of the paint work because I do not think that the camera could tell the difference in the colors.

Here are some pictures of the brick work done as of today. (The brick is a lot redder than the pictures show. They look brown in the pictures to me.)

Last week of May

Brick work got underway on Friday. It rained a good bit one day and it was too muddy for them to work. A lot of the sheet rock was patched this week too. Below are some pictures of the bricks that have started going up. I took these pictures with my phone and the color is not right on them. The brick are more red than the brown they appear in the pictures.

More was done last week. The hardwood floors were finished and all of the doors except one were installed. Brick was delivered. Today, the hot water heater was installed.

Hopefully this week, the brick will get underway, most of the electrical work will be done, and the HVAC will be installed. It will probably take a couple of weeks for the brick to be finished.

Here is an updated photo of the front on the house. There are some problems that have to be worked out before much more can be done. The only thing new in this photo from the previous one is the front porch has been added.

Here are a few photos of the hardwood floors being installed. They will be a different color once they are sanded and sealed, but they will stay as natural red oak.

The roof was finished today. I guess All American is now finished and it is left up to me to get everything else done.

The is so much to do and there are so many little things that you never think about having to do. Hopefully we will be in by June.

The site is now ready for the house. The building inspector came today and gave the go ahead.

Next week is the big week. They will start bringing the house on Monday and they will set it up on Tuesday and Wednesday. We are excited.

The house has been ordered. It should be here the second week of April.

Wednesday - Rebar was finished being put into the basement walls
Thursday - Wall were poured with concrete

The only thing left to be done before the house is delivered is to install the sill plate around the top of the blocks. This will not be done until a few days before the house is delivered so the weather does not damage it.

Monday - Block work was done on garage and front porch. Block colums were put into the basement.

Today the blockwork for the garage and front porch was finished. So were the supporting colums in the basement.

Today the batter boards for the garage and front porch were put up. Hopefully the footers for both can be dug this week, but it is supposed to rain tomorrow and this weekend. Also, the gravel was spread across the basement today. Click the photos for a larger version.

We finally have progress on our house. Excavating for the basement started in January. On 02/09/2008 most of the block work for the basement was finished. There is still an opening on one end so that a dump truck can get it with sand and gravel. Also all of the basement plumbing is now done. I haven't taken any photos since the block has been laid, but I will put them on when I do.

Until then, here are some photos of the basement being dug and driveway being put in. Click for larger photos.

Here is an extra one of when it snowed for the first time on the cleared area.

Thanks to RW Hauling for the excavating work. They came highly recommended to me and I highly recommend them.

So not much has changed on the house building lately. The land is cleared and I finally got all of my permits. The basement was staked out a couple of weeks ago and is supposed to be dug this week. We will see. I will start updating this blog more once things start to get underway. Until then, I am going to post all of the pictures that I have so far of the land. Click them to make them larger.

Permits

Today, I went to go and get a septic tank permit. The first thing that they ask for is my zoning permit. I told them that I did not get one because I called 2 weeks ago and was told that I do not need one since my property was just zoned.

Well I had to buy one. $25.00

Next I got my septic tank permit. It cost $190. I asked when they would come and do the purc test and they said it would be in the next week. I asked if I can clear my land and I was told they rather me not to. oops!!

Well, the purc test was done today anyway and they will come back and check after my land is cleared... make up your mind.

Water Tap

Today I called the City of Morganton and spoke with Mark Hall to get a water tap. He said it will take up to 2 weeks and it will be $700. I will have to come by and fill out paperwork and place a stake where I want the tap. I am going to wait a few days on this one.

Drainage Culvert

I had to buy drainage pipe today so that I can put in my driveway. I bought it at Wall Lumber Company and got 30 feet of 15 inch steel galvanized pipe which came in a 20 foot and 10 foot sections so I also had to buy a connecting band.

Burning Permit

I went today and got a burning permit. I went to Cloer's. It was no cost but is only good for 3 days. I will have to reapply on Saturday for another one. My neighbor told me that I can go online and get it, so that is what I will do.

Ground Breaking

Today was ground breaking for our new house. K&P Utilities started clearing our land for our driveway. It is mostly cleared now. The rest of the land should be cleared this weekend.
